Our First Look at the New 2025 Mazda CX-50 Hybrid

Mazda is introducing a new hybrid version of the popular CX-50 SUV for the 2025 model year, giving buyers a more efficient option that doesn’t require compromising on performance, comfort, and practicality.

A more efficient powertrain

The 2025 Mazda CX-50 hybrid benefits from a new electrified drivetrain that combines a 2,5L gasoline engine and an electric motor that can both power the vehicle on their own or in tandem, depending on the driving conditions. This powertrain, which is engineered by Toyota, is a self-contained hybrid system, which means that it doesn’t require the driver to plug the CX-50 in to a charger in order to get its full benefits. While this doesn’t give the CX-50 a significant electric-only range, it makes for a 40% lower fuel consumption in combined driving, with an estimated rating of 6,2 L per 100 kilometres. With 219 horsepower and 163 lb-ft of torque, this hybrid powertrain also offers more power than the standard engine in the gasoline-powered CX-50, offsetting its additional weight.

A slightly modified appearance

While some hybrid vehicles feature very distinctive design elements that make them stand out from their combustion-powered counterparts, the 2025 Mazda CX-50 hybrid opts for a more subtle approach. Indeed, the main visual differences between hybrid versions and their equivalent SkyActiv-powered models are different alloy wheels and a slightly revised front bumper. Inside, the only difference is that the CX-50 hybrid can be ordered with the Garnet Red leather interior, which is not available on versions powered by a gasoline engine only. The fact that few changes are made to the appearance of the CX-50 hybrid means that buyers who already like the looks of this premium and rugged SUV will like the new hybrid model just as much.

Three trim levels

The 2025 Mazda CX-50 hybrid is offered in three different trim levels that give buyers the opportunity to choose the model that best fits their needs and budget. The entry-level hybrid model is the GS-L version, which starts at $42,950. For this price, which is $3,000 more than the gas-powered GS-L, buyers can expect a 10,25-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple Car Play and Android Auto, 17-inch black alloy wheels, and wireless phone charging, among others. Next up is the CX-50 hybrid Kuro, priced at $ 44,0. This version add black painted exterior elements, such as roof rails, and exhaust tips, as well as the possibility to choose a Garnet Red interior, exclusive to hybrid models. Finally, the GT Hybrid is positioned at the top of the 2025 CX-50 Hybrid range. With a price tag of $48,350 this version benefits from a list of additions, such as 19-inch alloy wheels, bright roof rails, auto folding mirrors, ventilated front seats, and a head-up display, among others.

The new 2025 Mazda CX-50 hybrid offers a compelling option for buyers who want a more eco-conscious SUV without having to compromise on looks, performance, or technology, thanks to its close relation with the combustion-powered CX-50.
