Mazda CX-90 Models Earn 2023 IIHS Top Safety Pick+ Award

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has bestowed its highest safety honor, the 2023 TOP SAFETY PICK+, on Mazda's 2024 CX-90 Mild Hybrid Inline 6 Turbo (MHEV) and CX-90 Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) models. The award comes as the IIHS has strengthened its safety criteria for 2023, a challenge that Mazda has successfully met.

IIHS President David Harkey emphasized that the two SUVs' impressive safety features affirm Mazda's commitment to consumer safety. Similarly, David Klan, President and CEO of Mazda Canada Inc., stated that safety is a critical factor in the company’s engineering process and influences customer purchasing decisions significantly.

To achieve the 2023 TOP SAFETY PICK+ rating, vehicles must meet a stringent set of requirements. These include achieving 'good' scores in a variety of collision tests, such as driver-side and passenger-side small overlap front and original moderate overlap front tests. Additionally, the vehicle must have 'acceptable' or 'good' standard headlights across all trims. A front crash prevention system that scores 'advanced' or 'superior' in both daytime and nighttime evaluations is also mandatory for the award.

Besides the CX-90 models, other Mazda vehicles have also received safety accolades. The Mazda3, Mazda3 Sport, and CX-30 earned the 2023 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK when equipped with optional front crash prevention technology. The CX-5 and CX-50 models achieved the same award with their standard equipment.

This latest recognition by IIHS underscores Mazda's persistent focus on vehicle safety, keeping the automaker at the forefront of industry advancements.
