A First Look at the New 2025 Mazda CX-70

Mazda has now unveiled the new 2025 CX-70, the latest model in its lineup of dynamic and stylish SUVs. Closely related to the CX-90, this new model differentiates itself with its two rows of seats and its sportier design elements. Here is our first look at this model which will arrive on the market later this year.

A dynamic design

The 2025 Mazda CX-70 benefits from the same refined and dynamic design as the CX-90, but its shorter length gives it more aggressive proportions that make it look more like a rear-wheel drive model than an AWD one. Another element that helps the CX-70 have a sportier look than the CX-90 is its numerous black exterior accents which replace chromed parts such as the grille and window surrounds as well as appliqués on the bottom of the doors and the bumpers. Distinctive available alloy wheels also make the CX-70 stand out, including available black and machine-cut finished 21-inch wheels.

A modern and attractive cabin

The similarities between the Mazda CX-90 and the new 2025 CX-70 also translate to the interior, which means the new model benefits from one of the most modern and upscale cabins in the mass-market segment. Here again, the CX-70 stands out from its larger sibling with its use of different materials, such as grey metallic inlays in place of wood accents, red stitching and red leather upholstery. In addition to further reinforcing the CX-70’s sporty nature, this combination of colours and trim recalls the 100th Anniversary Special Edition of the MX-5.

Advanced technology

The 2025 Mazda CX-70 benefits from the latest technologies developed by Mazda in terms of infotainment, driver assistance, and connectivity. This means that drivers will be able to benefit from features such as Cruising and Traffic Support, which is now fitted with Unresponsive Driver Support, which can bring the vehicle to a stop on its own if the driver doesn’t react and take control back in time. Other new additions are the trailer hitch view system which uses the rear-view camera to help drivers attach a trailer, and a 1,500 W power outlet offered in some models. Turning to the infotainment system, we can see that the CX-70 is the first Mazda crossover to include Amazon Alexa, a technology that is aimed at reducing distractions and improving connectivity.

Two impressive powertrains

The 2025 Mazda CX-70 is powered by the same two powertrains as the larger CX-90, which means the standard model will come with a 3.3L turbocharged inline-six-cylinder engine fitted with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, while the plug-in hybrid variant will use a 2.5L Skyactiv four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor and a 17,8-kWh battery. Official figures for the CX-70 haven’t been announced yet, but the same powertrains in the CX-90 deliver up to 340 horsepower and 323 horsepower respectively. Thanks to its lower weight, the CX-70 is expected to be more dynamic than the CX-90 out on the road, and the PHEV variant should have more electric range than the 42-kilometer figure announced by the CX-90. Another point of interest for many buyers in the SUV market is towing capacity, and the CX-70 will be able to tow up to 5,000 pounds when properly equipped.
