Three Mazda models receive Top Safety Pick + designations from the IIHS

Three 2017 Mazda models have just received the prestigious Top Safety Pick Plus designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the US organization that evaluates the safety of new models that have just gone on sale. For 2017, the Mazda3 and its hatchback Sport version, the Mazda CX-3 and the 2017 Mazda6 were awarded the designation. Other models are sure to follow suit.

New Mazda Vehicles Named Top Safety Pick Plus

The vehicles named Top Safety Pick Plus represent the ultimate in safety in the automotive industry. To obtain this designation, a model must obtain a "good" rating (the highest rating awarded by the IIHS) in the five collision tests conducted by the organization - small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests.

An "advanced" or "superior" rating is also required when evaluating standard or optional forward collision prevention technologies. The IIHS also evaluates the performance of the front headlights.

"Mazda vehicles have long held a reputation for being the most fun-to-drive in each of their respective segments, and with KODO Design and SKYACTIV Technology, we've become leaders in other areas as well, such as design, fuel efficiency, and safety," said Vincent Reboul, Director, Marketing, Mazda Canada.

"As safety regulations become harder to meet, we have to make sure that our vehicles perform well in all driving situations, especially when taking the safety of our customers into account. The IIHS 'Top Safety Pick+' is awarded to only the best vehicles that meet the toughest standards, and we're proud to have our vehicles on that list."

Advanced safety technologies in new Mazda vehicles

The advanced safety of new Mazda vehicles comes first from SKYACTIV technology. The latter includes engines and transmissions that emphasize driving pleasure while improving fuel economy, but it should also be emphasized that SKYACTIV technologies also include a very rigid chassis that improves handling and stability, and therefore ensures very high impact resistance.

In addition, i-Activesense security technologies (intelligent cruise control, blind spot monitoring, lane departure monitoring and warning, automatic braking with collision detection, and automatic headlights) warn the driver if a collision is about to occur, and they can also intervene if the driver does not react.
