The New 2015 Mazda CX-5 Will Not Disappoint

Carrying over all the goods it received for the 2014 model year, the new 2015 Mazda CX-5 incorporates the automaker’s fuel-efficient SKYACTIV technology, and sports a sleek and sporty style due to Mazda’s Soul of Motion design language.

The CX-5 offers an engaging driving experience, and good fuel economy for an SUV of its size. SKYACTIV technology has made the vehicle lighter and stronger. When equipped with the SKYACTIV-G 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine with direct-injection, generating 155 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque (offered on the base GX model), owners benefit from 10-15 percent more low- to mid-range torque, and 15 percent lower fuel consumption.

This version of the 2015 Mazda CX-5 also includes a standard, smooth and responsive 6-speed manual transmission. A 6-speed automatic with Sport mode is optional, and provides up to 7 percent more fuel efficiency compared to pre-2014 automatic transmissions.

For more power, the “Zoom-Zoom” element can be found on the mid-level GS and top GT models due to a highly efficient SKYACTIV-G 2.5-litre 4-cylinder engine with direct-injection, generating 184 hp and 185 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired to the 6-speed automatic, and all-wheel drive is standard on these models, and optional on the GX trim (FWD is standard on the base model). Overall, the 2015 CX-5 is quite athletic, and handling is good. Also, brakes, steering and suspension are very capable for this type of vehicle.

Fuel economy ratings are impressive at 8.9 and 7.3 litres per 100 kilometres (city/highway) when considering the front-wheel drive base model equipped with the optional 6-speed automatic. With the 2.5-litre engine, ratings are 9.6 and 7.4 L/100km (city/highway respectively) with FWD, and 9.9 and 7.9 L/100km with AWD, which are still notable.

As for safety, two of Mazda’s i-ACTIVSENSE – otherwise known as active safety technologies - are available and worth considering: the blind spot monitoring system, and smart city brake support. Dynamic stability and traction control, and hill launch assist are standard.

In terms of interior space, another important element to consider when leasing or purchasing a compact SUV, the 2015 CX-5 will provide room for 5-passengers, and good headroom and legroom for front and rear seat occupants. Cargo space is also quite impressive, and should you need more room, the rear seats can be folded.

Finally, available features to consider include a moonroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, driver’s power seat, heated front seats, leather-trimmed upholstery and satellite radio. A navigation system and rearview camera should also come in handy, and remote keyless entry and a push start button are standard on the GX.

When looking for a compact SUV which offers an unprecedented level of styling, fuel-efficiency, performance, comfort, spaciousness, and safety, consider the 2015 Mazda CX-5. We promise, you will not be disappointed.
