2015 Mazda3 – An Excellent Choice for a Compact Sedan or Hatchback
Fresh off a redesign, the new 2015 Mazda3 sedan and hatchback has carried over all the goods it received for the 2014 model year, including sleek styling due to the Soul of Motion design language, fuel-efficient SKYACTIV technology, and excellent active safety systems.
Consumers in the market for a compact sedan or hatchback should definitely take a look at the 2015 Mazda3 model. At the base, the new “3” is only $15,995 MSRP, which already gives owners access to the standard SKYACTIV-G 2.0-litre, direct-injection, 4-cylinder that generates 155 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque. The engine is paired to a 6-speed manual transmission, and a 6-speed automatic with manual shift mode is optional (both are SKYACTIV transmissions).
With the base engine, buyers already benefit from 10-15 percent more low- to mid-range torque, and 15 percent lower fuel consumption and emissions compared to Mazda’s previous 2.0-litre engines. As for the manual transmission, owners may feel that it offers smooth shifting, steady acceleration, and great precision and responsiveness. The automatic is up to 7 percent more fuel efficient than previous Mazda transmissions of this type, and it offers quick, responsive and smooth shifts.
For a quicker, smoother, and more powerful engine, a 2.5-litre, direct-injection, 4-cylinder that pushes a total output of 184 hp and 185 lb-ft of torque is standard on the top GT trim. The engine is mated to a either a standard 6-speed manual, or an optional 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters and/or Sport mode.
When equipping the 2015 Mazda3 with the base 2.0-litre engine and available 6-speed automatic, fuel economy ratings are impressive at 7.9/5.7 litres per 100 kilometres (city/highway). As for the more powerful 2.5-litre engine paired with the 6-speed automatic and i-ELOOP (Mazda’s regenerative braking system), buyers can expect a rating of 8.2 and 5.9 L/100 km.
As for safety, several i-ACTIVSENSE technologies are available with the new “3.” Buyers can opt for the blind spot monitoring system with rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, and smart city brake support, all of which are a worthy consideration. Stability and traction control are standard.
In terms of comfort, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, leather-trimmed upholstery, and a leather-wrapped 3-spoke steering wheel are available, depending on the model.
Convenience elements to consider include keyless entry, a push button start, rearview camera, voice activated navigation, satellite radio, and a 7-inch display, the latter of which is standard on the GS model. Consumers intrigued by the active driving display will be pleased to note that it comes standard on the GT trim.
For interior spaciousness, buyers can increase the cargo volume by folding the rear seats. Consumers can also opt for the Mazda3 hatchback, which offwea slightly more versatility.
Whether as a sedan or hatchback, the 2015 Mazda3 continues to be a great choice within its segment. With its more aggressive styling, fuel-efficient SKYACTIV technology, active safety systems and available features, the new 2015 Mazda3 is definitely one of the most impressive options within its segment.
